MarQuee was born Lamar Williams in the Bay Area in the city of San Jose, California. He compares his life to one of a military child’s saying, “My family moved every 3 to 6 months we always were getting evicted.” His family’s unstable living situation payed off in the long run he moved to Fairfield, California at age 13 where he eventually fell in love with Hip Hop. MarQuee started going to ciphers in his cousin Smurf’s garage. He started working on his pen game and eventually began joining in on the battles. His family moved once again to the suburban area of Pleasanton, CA where he finished high school. After graduation Marquee moved back to San Jose to began working with his uncle / producer and CEO of THRO DOWN Records G- Rock. He hooked up with some childhood friends and started a group known as Diverse City. Diverse City released their U belong 2 the City Mixtape which was a college circuit success and sold roughly 1000 copies. Only 2 years later MarQuee was ready to release his first album with now defunct group Diverse City. The album had production credit from Bay Area heavy hitters Traxamillion, G-Rock, and I-80 so it had high expectations but due to creative differences between the group and its indie label Thro-Down the album was never released. After the fall of Diverse City and the letdown of unreleased projects MarQuee had to hustle. He did what he felt was easy and began strong arm robbing business establishments. His luck eventually ran out and he was caught robbing an Audio establishment. MarQuee took a deal with two strikes to be sentenced to the minimum sentence of 1 year in jail. During his time in jail MarQuee promised his supporters he would make music his main focus. Upon his release MarQuee teamed up with another former Diverse City group member Mike B. and began producing records for Bay Area R&B sensation F.Nyce. MarQuee, F. Nyce and Mike B. started Ja’ Soul and are scheduled to release a new hip hop and R&B mixtape series SLAP 2 THE FUTURE in FALL 09 under IN THE FASTLANE RECORDS. |
